택시 기사 이런 국민은 당해 봐야 합니다

오늘 아침 출근길에 택시를 탔다. 73세의 이상규씨가 모는 회사택시였다. 그는 나를 알아보고 세상을 개탄하는 이야기를 많이 했다.
"우리 국민들이 배부르고 등 따수우니 엉뚱한 짓을 하는 것 같아요. 고생하면서 이런 세상을 만든 사람을 잊어버리는 정도가 아니라 욕만 합니다. 저는 라디오도 끄고 텔레비전 뉴스도 보지 않고 삽니다. 내 건강을 지키기 위하여."
그는 옛날에 비교하면 요사이 세상은 '천국'이 아니겠느냐고 했다.
"정치인들이 왜 그렇게 욕과 거짓말을 많이 합니까?"
이상규씨의 결론도 나와 같았다.
"이런 국민은 당해 봐야 합니다."
회사에 나와서 인터넷을 켜니 柳根一 선생도 비슷한 이야기를 썼다.
재미 있는 건 살 날이 많지 않은 이들이 살 날이 많은 사람들을 걱정한다는 점이다. 젊은이들은 늙어본 적이 없다. 그러나 늙은이들은 젊어본 적이 있다. 그래서 로마의 키케로가 이런 말을 한 모양이다.
"위대한 나라에선 젊은이들은 나라를 망치고, 노인들이 나라를 구한다."
