 자유민주주의 고지를 먼저
 

가치관이란 매우 철학적인 어려운 낱말 같지만 따지고 무엇이 가장 소중한 것인지 먼저 정해 놓고 그 순위를 정하는 것이라고 생각합니다. 오늘 대한민국이 이렇게 크게 흔들리는 까닭은 그 가치관의 체계가 흔들리기 때문이라고 나는 믿습니다.

대한민국이 국가로서 존재하고 번영을 누리게 되는 가장 크고 소중한 바탕은 대한민국의 자유민주주의에 있습니다. “대한민국은 민주공화국이다. 주권은 국민에게 있고 모든 권력은 국민으로부터 나온다”는 한 마디가 바로 그것입니다. 주권은 국민에게 있어야 하고, 그래야만 민주주의입니다. 그리고 가장 순수하고 가장 수준 높은 민주주의가 자유민주주의입니다.

그러므로 우리는 유엔 감시 하의 총선거를 반대하고 당시의 소련의 사주를 받아 공산주의 독재체제를 멋대로 만들고 불법으로 남침을 감행했을 뿐 아니라 호시탐탐 오늘도 무력으로 적화통일을 획책하는 김정일 집단의 간단없는 남침의 야망을 분쇠하고 철통같은 국방태세를 갖추고 자유민주주의로서 남과 북을 하나가 되게 할 뿐만 아니라 한반도를 자유민주주의의 꽃동산으로 가꾸는 것이 우리 모두의 염원이고 또한 ‘지상명령’입니다.

이 나라의 정치와 경제, 사회와 교육, 문화와 역사가 이 가치, 이 원칙을 떠나서는 아무런 의미도 없습니다. 요새 우리 삶의 원칙을 버리고 정신없이 춤을 추는 한심한 한국인들이 도처에서 발견됨은 심히 유감스러운 일입니다. 자유민주주의를 능가할 가치는 없습니다.
