 昌 “전쟁 위험론의 함정에 빠져서는 안 된다”
 “채찍 없는 평화 관리책 만으로는 북한의 무력 도발을 막지 못한다”

자유선진당 이회창[사진] 대표는 7일 주요당직자회의에서 “전쟁 위험론의 함정에 빠져서는 안 된다”고 강조했다.
  

李 대표는 “북한의 천안함 폭발 침몰과 같은 무력도발과 전쟁 위협을 막는 길은 강력한 국제 공조를 바탕으로 한 제재와 응징이고 전쟁 도발을 시도할 경우 그것은 체제의 자살길이 될 수밖에 없음을 분명히 일깨워야 한다”며 이같이 말했다. 

  
아울러, “전쟁 위험론자들은 전쟁을 피하기 위해 북한을 응징할 게 아니라 달래야 한다고 주장하고 있다”며 “그러나 북한에 대해 일관되게 유화책을 써온 김대중, 노무현 정권 하에서 북한의 1, 2차 연평해전이 일어나지 않았던가. 채찍 없는 평화 관리책 만으로는 북한의 무력 도발을 막지 못한다”고 역설했다. 
  
특히, “이번 선거로 전쟁 위험론의 함정에 결코 빠져서는 안 된다”며 “이러한 함정을 국민에게 직접 설명하고 평화 관리의 필요성을 인정하되 북한이 자신들의 자살길이 되는 전쟁 도발은 결코 시도할 수 없다는 점을 설득해야 한다”고 피력했다.
  
또, “이번 선거로 국가 안보가 후퇴하는 일이 있어서는 결코 안 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
