연천 구미리 남침땅굴 논란
시민단체 “국가안보 위해 절개하라”

경기 연천군 백학면 구미리의 남침땅굴 진위 논쟁이 10년 만에 다시 불거지고 있다.
한국일보에 따르면, 대북전단보내기국민연합(공동대표: 최우원 外) 등 시민단체 회원 20여명은 최근 구미리 땅굴 시추 지점에서 기자회견을 열어 “국가 안보를 위해 즉시 구미리 땅굴을 절개하라”고 촉구했다.
이들은 “시민단체들이 사비를 털어 땅을 팠고, 직접 땅굴 안에서 동영상까지 촬영해 땅굴의 존재는 누구도 부인할 수 없다”며 “국방부는 남침 땅굴이 아니라고 하지만 불안을 종식시키기 위해서라도 파봐야 한다”고 주장했다.
2000년 1월 이 땅굴을 처음 발견한 이창근(44)씨는 “나는 보안부대 출신으로 군복무 시절부터 남침용 땅굴을 추적했다”며 “정부는 철저하게 구미리 땅굴을 은폐했고, 포상금을 노리는 사기로 몰았다”고 말했다.
기자회견 뒤 이들은 연천군(청)을 방문, 구미리 땅굴 절개를 지원해달라고 요청했다. 이에 연천군 측은 “지자체에 권한이 없다”며, 대신 “요구사항을 중앙에 건의하겠다”고 답했다.
