 美 국방부 마스크 500만개 민간 공급산하 연구소 16개 개방

우한 코로나 바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 사망자가 100명을 넘어서면서 확산 대응에 비상이 걸린 미국이 
국방부(펜타곤)을 통해 군수용 의료물자를 대규모로 민간에 공급하기로 했다.

17일(현지 시각) 로이터 통신과 월스트리트저널(WSJ), 영국 일간 인디펜던트 등 주요외신들은 미국 국방
부가 전략 예비물자에서 100만개를 포함한 500만개의 안면 마스크와 보호장비, 2000개에 달하는 산소호
흡기 등을 공급할 것이라고 밝혔다.

인디펜던트에 따르면 에스퍼 장관은 이날 백악관 브리핑에서 이 같은 결정을 전하면서 16개의 국방부 산
하 연구소도 민간인들의 우한 코로나 진단 테스트를 위해 개방할 예정이라고 덧붙였다.

한편 CNN은 미국의 우한 코로나 관련 사망자 수가 이날 오후(미국 동부시간) 100명을 넘어섰다고 보도했
다.

주별로는 서부 워싱턴주에서 가장 많은 50명의 사망자가 나왔고, 이어 뉴욕주와 캘리포니아주에 각각 12
명씩이 희생됐다. 이어 플로리다(5명), 루이지애나(4명), 뉴저지(3명), 버지니아와 인디애나(2명) 등의 순
이었다.

CNN은 미국 내 코로나19 감염자 수를 5천10명으로 집계했다. 전날 오후 4천100여 명이었던 환자 수가 밤
새 1천 명 가까이 증가한 것이다.
