진보주의자들이 보수주의를 공격할 때 늘 ‘보수주의자들은 정부의 규제로부터 시장을 자유롭게 해방시키려 한다‘라는 표현을 사용합니다. 맞습니다. 그런데 거기엔 조건이 붙습니다. 그것은 보수주의가 추구하는 시장자유가 ‘고전적 자유주의‘처럼 ‘야경국가‘에 이를 정도의 자유가 아니라 ‘재산권을 남용금지‘ ‘공공복리를 위한 자유의 제한‘ 같은 헌법적 제한의 틀 안에서 작동하는 자유라는 것입니다. 이러한 제한을 오해한 자파들과 ‘헌법에 무지한‘ 좌파들이 ‘경제민주화‘라는 정치적 구호를 헌법에 수용한 것이 바로 헌법 119조 2항입나다. 그리고 거기에 터잡아 급진좌파적 정책들이 쏟아져나오고 있지요. 문제는 세 후보들이 주장하는 여러 정책들이 급진좌파적이라는 사실을 후보들은 물론 언론들도 제대로 모른다는 사실입니다. 그만큼 우리 지식인들이 고민하지 않는다는 것이겠지요.
