 朴正熙 서양 민주주의 직수입하면 반드시 소화불량에 걸린다

 * 아래 글은 1975년1월14일 朴正熙 대통령의 연두기자회견 내용중 일부이다. 朴 대통령은 민주주의의 장점을 인정하면서도 민주주의가 기능하도록 만들려면 반드시 그 토양을 먼저 다져야 한다고 강조한다. 朴 대통령은 경제력, 제도, 국민 수준을 그런 토양으로 인식했다. 자신의 역사적 역할은 민주주의의 토대를 만드는 것이라고 생각했다. 불완전한 민주주의를 非민주적 방법으로 보완하려 한 이런 박정희를 요사이는 '자유주의 지향적 권위주의자'(Liberal Authoritarian)라고 분류한다.
