 근본을 잃어버린 정치의 희생양
 

오세훈시장이 대선 불출마를 선언했습니다. 

무상급식 반대투표에 정치생명을 

걸겠다는 의지입니다. 

초췌한 얼굴에 수많은 고민을 했을 

오세훈 시장을 TV화면을 통해 보며

참으로 착잡한 심정이었습니다. 

 
무상급식 반대 주민투표는 

그 자체로도 충분히 우리 모두가 

'서울시민의 뜻을 직접 묻는 의미'가 

충분하건만 

그 뒷 배경을 두고 수많은 이야기와 추측이 오갔습니다. 

저는 본질을 잃어버린 정치,

근본을 잃어버린 정치의 희생자가 된 

오세훈 시장을 보면서 

가슴이 아팠습니다. 

 
곧이어 걸려온 기자들의 전화-

'오세훈 시장이 그만두면 

아무개 아무개주자에게 이익이 되지 않을까요?'

기자들은 늘 질문할 수 있지요. 

그러나 참 맥이 빠지는 심정인 것은 

숨길 수 없었습니다. 

'우리들의 리그에 더 많은 주자들이

더 많은 대선후보들이 뛰어야 하는데

많은 관심을 모았던 오세훈 후보가 

그만둔다는 것은 뭐 그리 득이 되겠는가?

대선주자들 자신들에게 오히려 

마이너스가 될 것'이라고 답해주었습니다. 

 
그렇습니다.

나홀로 되는 것은 아무것도 없습니다. 

지금 이 시대정신이 요구하는 

대선후보들이 치열한 경쟁을 벌이고 바글바글대야 

한나라당 경선은 의미가 있습니다. 

이런 식으로 '한 사람씩 떨구기'

ㅡ대체 무슨 도움이 되겠습니까?  

 
과연 권력이란 무엇일까요?

권력이란 국민을 대신해서 나라를 

좋은  방향으로 이끌어가는 것입니다. 

그런데 권력을 얻고자 하는 이들의 행태는 

저를 매우 답답하고 슬프게 합니다. 

'옛날로, 그 옛날로'로 돌아가자는 

퇴행으로 밖에 볼 수 없잖습니까?

오세훈시장이 대선불출마를 선언한데는

여러 이유가 있을 듯 합니다. 

대선과 주민투표를 연결시킨다는 

민주당을 비롯한 야당과 무상급식 찬성파의 

집요한 공격도 있었습니다. 

그러나 한 편으로는 '대선주자로서 오세훈'을 

원치 않는 집단의 '압력'도 거셌습니다. 

 
참으로 부끄러운 일입니다. 

씁쓸하기 그지없는 일입니다. 

이 나라와 이 국민들은 

과연 어느 방향으로 가고 있을까?

그리고 권력은 무엇을 위한 권력인가?

 
수많은 의문속에서 앞으로 

헤쳐나아갈 폭풍우를 가늠하며 

더 큰 힘을 달라고 

절대자에게 간절히 기원해봅니다.
