신문로 서울역사박물관에서. 국민들이 戰禍를 딛고 일어서던 시절의 모습.

신문로 서울역사박물관에서 '재건시대 서울(1957~1963)'이란 사진전이 열리고 있다. 서울시청에서 찍은 50여년 전 사진들이다. 戰禍(전화)를 딛고 일어서던 시절, 4.19와 5.16을 前後(전후)한 시절의 땀과 눈물과 열정이 서린 장면들이다. 남산에서 찍은 서울全景 사진 속에선 3층 이상 시멘트 건물들이 몇 개밖에 보이지 않는다. 서울시청 광장에서 서독 서크스團의 공연을 구경하는 군중들, 살찐 것을 기준으로 한 우량아 선발대회, 리어커 발대식, 李承晩 대통령 탄신 축하 네온사인, 市立전당포 사진이 인상적이다.
6.25 전쟁의 충격을 딛고 국민들이 일어서던 무렵의 모습들이 生動한다. 事後的 感想이지만, 30대, 40대 젊은 장교들의 패기 넘치는 모습에서 성공을 예감하게 하는 그 어떤 힘을 느낄 수 있다. 사진마다 생활의 절박함이 스며 있다. 헛소리가 잘 먹히지 않던 시절이다. 1957년 서울 인구는 160만 명, 1963년엔 320만 명이었다. 베이비 붐 세대(1954~1962년)가 태어나던 시절이다.
