 미 국무부천안함 사건 중러 중요한 역할 기대

미국 정부는 천안함 사건에 대한 대응과 관련해 유엔 안보리 상임이사국인 중국과 러시아가 중요한 역할을 맡아 줄 것을 촉구했다. 미 행정부 관계자들은 중국이 북한에 대한 국제사회의 제재 조치를 결국 지지할 것이라고 말해 주목 된다고 미국 소리 방송이 27일 보도했다.

 
미국 국무부는 26일 천안함 사건에 대한 강력한 대응 방침을 거듭 확인하면서, 중국과 러시아 정부의 적극적인 역할을 촉구했다. 

 
필립 크롤리 국무부 공보 담담 차관보는 정례브리핑에서, 미국은  천안함 사건과 관련해 국제사회의 강력한 대응을 모색하고 있다며, 중국과 러시아가 이 과정에서 중요한 역할을 해야 한다는 것은 분명하다고 말했다.

 
크롤리 대변인은 구체적으로 두 나라가 북한에 매우 분명하고 강렬한 메시지를 보낼 줄 것을 당부했다.

 
크롤리 차관보는 중국 정부의 경우 28일 서울을 방문하는 원자바오 총리가 이명박 대통령을 비롯한 한국 정부 고위 관계자들과 천안함 사건 대응 방안을 협의할 것이라고 말했다.

 
중국 정부가 천안함 사건에 대해 나름대로 판단을 하겠지만 원자바오 총리가 한국 정부 고위 당국자들과 이 문제를 논의할 것이 분명하다는 설명이다.

 
미국 정부 고위 관계자들이 중국이 북한과의 관계를 재검토하고 국제사회의 대북 조치를 지지할 가능성이 있다고 밝혀 주목된다.

 
힐러리 클린턴 국무장관의 아시아 순방을 수행했던 한 고위 당국자는 익명을 전제로, 천안함 사건과 관련한 중국의 입장이 조심스럽고 신중하게 한국 측에 가까워질 것이라고 말했다.

 
이 당국자는 중국 정부는 원자바오 총리의 서울 방문을 계기로 천안함 사건에 대한 국제사회의 적절한 대응 방안에 대해 한국 정부와 논의를 시작할 것이라고 밝혔다.  

 
크롤리 차관보는 또 러시아는 한반도의 평화와 안보에 직접적인 이해관계가 있는 나라라며, 천안함 사건과 관련해 미국처럼 한국 정부를 지지해 주기를 기대한다고 말했다.
