 “G7 頂上들 북 위협 우려 한 목소리 낼 것”

앵커: 오는 8월 24일부터 27일까지 프랑스 비아리츠에서 열리는 G7, 즉 주요7개국 정상회담에서 참가
국 정상들은 북한의 핵과 미사일 위협을 우려하는 단합된 목소리를 낼 것이란 전문가의 전망이 나왔습
니다. 이상민 기자가 보도합니다.
  
  미국 전략국제문제연구소(CSIS)의 니콜라스 세체니(Nicholas Szechenyi) 일본 석좌는 20일 전략국제
문제연구소가 주최한 G-7 정상회담에 대한 전화기자회견에서 북한 문제가 이번 G-7 정상회담에서 다
뤄질 것 같으냐는 자유아시아방송(RFA)의 질의에 가능성이 매우 높다고 답했습니다.
  
  세체니 석좌는 그동안 G-7과 같은 국제회의에서 북한 문제가 제기되면 이를 해결하기 위해 핵 비확산 
차원에서 국제사회 연대의 중요성이 부각되어 왔다며 이번에도 그럴 가능성이 높다고 설명했습니다.
  
  세체니 석좌: 북한 문제가 (G-7) 정상들 간 논의 주제로 올라올 가능성이 매우 높습니다. 그렇게 되면 
G-7정상들이 국제사회에 도전하면서 영향을 주는 (북한) 문제에 단합된 목소리를 내는 힘을 보여주게 
될 것입니다.(It’s quite possible that that will come up in the discussions with the other leaders as well. 
And if it does, that’s a testament to the power of the G-7 to issue a unified voice on challenges 
affecting the international community.)
  
  세체니 석좌는 이어 도널트 트럼프 미국 대통령과 아베 신조 일본 총리가 이번 G-7 정상회담 중 별도
로 만나 북한 문제에 대해 논의할 것이라고 전망했습니다. 그는 현재 일본에서는 트럼프 대통령이 북한
이 최근 시험발사를 강행한 단거리미사일이 일본을 공격할 수 있음에도 이를 대수롭지 않게 여기고 미
국 본토까지 도달할 수 있는 북한의 장거리 미사일만 우려하고 있다는 인식이 있다고 지적했습니다.
  
  이런 까닭에 아베 총리는 G-7 정상회담에서 트럼프 대통령에게 완전하고 검증가능한 북한의 비핵화 
달성이라는 본연의 목적과 북한의 모든 사거리 탄도미사일과 핵무기 제거 및 북한에 납치된 일본인 등 
북한인권문제가 미북 합의에 포함돼야 한다는 점을 분명히 할 것이라고 내다봤습니다.
  
  이와 관련해 지난 7일 일본을 방문했던 미국의 마크 에스퍼 국방장관은 아베 일본 총리를 만나 북한 
비핵화와 북한의 모든 사거리 탄도미사일 및 북한에 납치된 일본인 문제 해결을 약속했다고 밝히기도 
했습니다. 한편, G7, 즉 주요 7개국은 미국과 일본, 캐나다, 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 이탈리아를 포함하고 
있습니다.
