美 국무부 北中회담에 “비핵화 의미 공유하고 제재 이행해야”

미국 국무부가 평양에서 열린 북-중 정상회담과 관련해, 비핵화 목표를 거듭 상기시키면서 대북 제재
이행을 촉구했습니다. 백성원 기자가 보도합니다.
“미국은 파트너와 동맹국들, 그리고 중국을 포함한 유엔 안보리 상임이사국들과 함께 최종적이고 완
전히 검증된 북한의 비핵화 달성이라는 공동의 목표에 전념하고 있다”고 국무부가 밝혔습니다.
[국무부 관계자] “The United States along with our partners and allies, and other permanent
members of the UN Security Council, including China, are committed to the shared goal of
achieving the final, fully verifiable, denuclearization of North Korea.”
국무부 대변인실 관계자는 20일, 이날 평양에서 진행된 김정은 북한 국무위원장과 시진핑 중국 국가
주석의 정상회담에 대한 VOA의 논평 요청에 이같이 답했습니다.
특히 ‘북한의 안보 우려 해결에 중국이 적극적 역할을 할 것’이라는 시진핑 주석의 발언을 어떻게 받
아들이느냐는 질문에 “미국과 국제사회는 최종적이고 완전히 검증된 비핵화가 무엇을 요하는지, 그리
고 이 목표를 향한 의미 있는 진전이 어떤 모습일지에 대해 공통의 이해를 갖고 있다”고 말했습니다.
[국무부 관계자] “The United States and the international community have a shared
understanding of what final, fully verified denuclearization entails and what meaningful progress
toward that goal looks like.”
이 관계자는 ‘체제 보장’ 약속으로 들리는 시 주석의 발언에 우려는 없느냐고 묻자 대북 제재 이행의
중요성을 강조했습니다. “모든 유엔 회원국들은 유엔 안보리 제재 결의들을 이행해야 할 의무가 있고,
우리는 모든 나라들이 그렇게 할 것으로 기대한다”는 겁니다.
[국무부 관계자] “All UN Member States are required to implement UN Security Council sanctions
resolutions, and we expect them all to continue doing so. The United States continues to work
with governments around the world to ensure all nations are fully implementing UN sanctions
obligations.”
그러면서 “미국은 유엔의 제재 의무를 모든 나라들이 완전히 이행하도록 세계 각국 정부들과 계속 협
력하고 있다”고 덧붙였습니다. 이 관계자는 또 “우리는 동맹과 파트너 국가들, 그리고 중국을 포함한
유엔 안보리 상임이사국들과 밀접한 협력을 계속할 것이라고 말했습니다. VOA 뉴스 백성원입니다.
