도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 28일 오후 2시(현지시각) 김정은 북한 국무위원장과 확대 정상회담을 마친
뒤 베트남 하노이 메리어트 호텔에서 가진 기자회견에서 "김 위원장은 상당한 캐릭터를 가진 분"이라며
"북한과 굳건한 관계를 갖고 있지만, 이번에 어떤 '옵션'도 행사하지 않기로 했다"고 말했다. 트럼프 대통
령은 "어떤 때는 다른 길을 택해야 할 때도 있다"고 했다. 이에 따라 2차 미⋅북 정상회담이 사실상
결렬됐다.
폼페이오 국무장관은 "양 정상이 많은 진전을 이뤘지만 미국이 원하는 결과를 이끌어내지 못했다. 김 위
원장에게 더 많은 비핵화 조치를 요구했지만, 김 위원장은 준비가 되지 않았다"고 했다. 폼페이오 장관은
"이번 회담은 여기서 마무리한다"고 했다.
이어 트럼프 대통령은 "북한은 비핵화를 할 준비가 돼 있지만, 미국이 원하는 비핵화를 할 준비가 돼 있지
않다"고 했다.
