 볼턴 “北 수십년간 핵포기 의향 말만행동 보여라”

존 볼턴 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 보좌관은 북한이 수십 년간 말로만 핵 프로그램 포기 의사
를 밝혀왔다며 2차 미·북 정상회담에서는 말이 아닌 행동으로 보여야 한다고 6일(현지 시각) 주장했다. 

미국의소리(VOA)에 따르면, 볼턴 보좌관은 이날 미국 NPR방송과의 인터뷰에서 "우리는 그들(북한)이 
핵 프로그램을 포기할 의지가 있다는 말을 수십 년간 들어왔다"며 "우리가 보려고 하는 것은 (말이 아니
라) 행동"이라고 말했다. 

그러면서 볼턴 보좌관은 2차 미·북 정상회담이 1차 미·북 정상회담에서 북한의 약속을 지킬 수 있는 기
회라고 강조했다. 그는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 2차 미·북 정상회담을 김 위원장에게 주는 ‘보상
(reward)’이 아니라 싱가포르 회담에서 한 약속을 지킬 수 있는 ‘기회(chance)’를 주려는 것이라고 생
각한다고 밝혔다. 


이어 볼턴 보좌관은 "트럼프 대통령은 북한을 위한 문을 열어두고 있다"며 "그들은 그 안으로 걸어들어
올 필요가 있다" 말했다. 볼턴 보좌관은 2차 미·북 정상회담은 싱가포르 회담에서 약속한 것을 실행할 
수 있는 북한의 중요한 의사결정권자인 김 위원장에게 또 하나의 기회라라면서 회담이 내년 초순에 열
릴 가능성이 있다고 말했다. 

앞서 지난 4월 볼턴 보좌관은 ‘월스트리트저널 최고경영자(CEO) 협회’ 토론회에서 북한이 싱가포르 회
담에서 한 약속을 지키지 않아서 트럼프 대통령이 또 다른 정상회담을 생각하는 것 같다고 언급한 바 
있다.
