시중은행들이 ‘대출금리 모범규준’을 만들고도 자의적으로 금리를 정해온 사례가 금융감독원에 적발됐다. 
은행이 대출자의 담보를 전산시스템에 입력하지 않아 실제보다 2.7%포인트의 금리를 더 낸 자영업자가 
있는가 하면, 연봉 8300만 원인 직장인의 소득을 0원으로 처리해 대출금리를 연 6.8%로 과도하게 책정한 
사실도 드러났다. 금감원이 6개 시중은행과 NH농협, IBK기업, 부산 등 9개 은행의 대출금리 적정성을 점
검한 결과다.  

해당 은행들은 이번 검사 결과에 대해 “고의가 아닌 실수”라고 해명했으나 믿기 어렵다. 금감원은 은행이 
부당하게 받은 이자를 돌려주도록 하겠다고 밝혔다. 은행에 맡기겠다는 말이지만 이 정도로 국민의 분노
가 가라앉을지 의문이다. 올해 금리 상승세가 이어지면서 KB국민, 신한, KEB하나, 우리 등 4대 시중은행
의 1분기 이자이익은 5조4000억 원을 넘어섰다. 지난해 같은 기간보다 11.9% 늘었다. 은행 자체의 혁신
은 거의 없이 ‘땅 짚고 헤엄치기’식의 예대마진 장사를 하는 은행들이 멋대로 금리 책정을 한 것까지 ‘실
수’로 봐준다면 은행의 신뢰는 회복되기 어렵다.

금감원은 은행들이 대출금리 산정의 기준을 소비자에게 공개하도록 하겠다고 했지만 그런 소극적 대처로
는 부족하다. 무엇보다 대다수 금융 소비자는 은행창구에서 알려주는 개인별 대출금리를 그대로 믿을 수
밖에 없다. 은행마다 우대금리 조건이 복잡하다 보니 가장 유리한 조건의 은행을 선택하기도 쉽지 않다. 
금융당국은 이에 대한 해결책과 함께 이번에 적발된 은행들의 고의성 유무를 가려 일벌백계해야 할 것이
다.
