 트럼프 북한 관련 “매우 이례적인 움직임 벌어져”
 

“시진핑 주석을 많이 존중하고 있다. 그가 북한 문제 해결을 위해 열심히 일할 것으로 확신하고 있다”

  도널드 트럼프 대통령은 시진핑 중국 국가주석이 북한 문제 해결을 위해 매우 열심히 노력하고 있으
며, 실제로 많은 변화가 일어나고 있다고 말했습니다. 김영권 기자가 보도합니다.
  
  트럼프 대통령은 20일 백악관에서 파올로 젠틸로니 이탈리아 총리와의 정상회담 뒤 가진 공동 기자회
견에서 시진핑 중국 국가주석이 북한의 변화를 위해 “매우 열심히 노력하고 있다”고 말했습니다.

  많은 전문가들에 따르면 중국이 북한 문제 해결을 위해 과거에는 결코 보지 못했던 노력들을 지금 하
고 있다는 겁니다. 트럼프 대통령은 그 예로 “(북한의) 많은 석탄 선박들이 차질을 겪는 등 많은 다른 
일들이 벌어지고 있다”고 말했습니다. 특히 “지난 2-3시간 동안 일부 아주 이례적인 움직임들이 있었
다”고 말해 궁금증을 자아냈습니다.

  트럼프 대통령은 그러나 구체적으로 어떤 일들이 벌어졌는지는 설명하지 않았습니다. 이어 “시진핑 
주석을 많이 존중하고 있다”며 “그가 북한 문제 해결을 위해 열심히 일할 것으로 확신하고 있다”고 말
했습니다.
  
  중국이 북한 문제를 해결할 수 있을지는 알 수 없지만 시 주석이 아주 열심히 노력할 것이란 점은 분
명히 확신할 수 있다는 겁니다. 트럼프 대통령은 자신이 이렇게 확신하는 이유로 이달 초 가진 시 주석
과의 정상회담을 언급했습니다.

menace or do something about the menace of North Korea…”
  
  시 주석에게 “북한의 위협을 제거하거나 이에 대해 뭔가를 한다면 미국과 훨씬 나은 무역 거래를 하
게 될 것이라고 말했다”는 겁니다. 트럼프 대통령은 또 취임 이후 90여 일 동안 북한과 관련해 “많은 일
을 하고 있고 우리가 매우 좋은 위치에 있다”고 말했습니다.

  북한 문제 대응을 위해 “군사력을 빠르게 증강하고 있고 많은 일들이 지난 짧은 기간 동안 벌어졌
다”는 겁니다. 트럼프 대통령은 그러면서 “(북한은) 지금 당장의 위협(menace)”이라며 앞으로 “무슨 
일들이 벌어지는지 주시할 것”이라고 말했습니다.
  
  한편 트럼프 대통령은 김정은 북한 국무위원장의 정신 상태가 불안정한지를 묻는 기자의 질문에 “답
할 수 없다”며, “그 답이 부정적이 아니라 긍정적이길 희망한다”고 말했습니다.
