각자가 나의 모퉁이를 지켜내면 밝은 세상이 온다

'不毛地帶'라는 소설의 모델이었던 故 '세지마 류조의 遺言'(新井喜美夫)이란 책을 읽다가 재미 있는 漢文이 보였다. 일본 종합상사 이토추 商社 회장을 지낸 세지마가 후배에게 써준 글이 '守一隅 照千里'였다. 그 뜻은 "자신에게 주어진 한 모퉁이를 굳게 지키고 있으면 머지 않아 千里를 비추게 될 것이다"이다. 한 사람 한 사람이 자신의 職分을 다하면 그 힘들이 모여서 세상이 밝아진다는 말이다. 그렇다면 내가 지켜야 할 모퉁이는 어디인가? '한국 現代史의 진실들'이 '나의 모퉁이'인가? 모든 한국인들, 특히 질풍노도의 시대를 치열하게 살아온 기성세대는 모두가 지켜야 할 '나의 모퉁이'를 지니고 있을 것이다.
