 어떤 변화를 그대는 바라는가

 이명박 정권 하에서 만사가 따분하게 느껴지는 것은 사실입니다. 취임하고 4년의 세월이 흘렀지만 달라진 것은 없습니다. 그래도 그가 서울 시장으로 있었을 때에는 청계천이 복원되어 한양성 한복판에 악취를 풍기며 고여만 있던 그 구정물이 자취를 감취고 맑은 한강수가 흘렀을 때 서울 시민 뿐 아니라 전 한국민이 감동하여 박수갈채를 보냈습니다.

 지나간 4년의 세월에는 우리 모두가 감격할 만한 어떤 일도 이 대한민국 땅에서 일어나지 않았습니다. 우리는 그래서 답답합니다. 대운하공사는 시작하다 말았고, 그 뒤에 옷을 갈아입고 등장했던 ‘4대강 살리기’도 꼬리를 내렸습니다. 세종시 수정안만 국회를 통과했어도 충청도 연기군에 멋진 현대식 대도시가 하나 우뚝 서게 되었을 터인데 그 꿈도 이제는 수포로 돌아갔습니다.

 그래서 유권자들은 변화를 원하는 것 같습니다. 마음이 답답하기 때문입니다. 그런데 이런 때가 국가적으로는 매우 위험한 때입니다. 왜? 변화가 반드시 개선으로 이어지리라는 보장이 없기 때문입니다. 변화에 대한 지나친 욕구가 일단 사회적 혼란을 야기하게 되고 사회적 혼란은 빨리 수습되지 못할 경우, 망국의 서러움으로 이어지기 일쑤입니다.

 모든 변화가 다 바람직한 것은 아닙니다. 모든 변화는 개선으로 가야합니다. 개악으로 치닫는 변화는 위험천만한 것이므로 크게 경계할 일입니다. 오늘의 한국인이 변화를 갈망하고 있지만 한국의 처지가 낭떠러지 비슷한 것이라면 크게 반성하고 크게 분발해야 할 때가 바로 이 때라고 믿습니다.(konas)
