 12개 불교단체 촛불 주동자들 조계사 떠나라

대한민국지키기 불교도총연합(이하 대불총) 등 12개 불교단체는 14일 성명을 내고 촛불시위를 주도한 뒤 천막농성 중인 7명의 수배자가 조계사를 떠날 것을 촉구했다.

불교 단체들은 성명서에서 “실체가 없는 미국산 쇠고기의 광우병 허상만 보고, 고유가 등으로 인해 고통 받는 국민들과 촛불시위로 피해 받는 우리의 소중한 이웃을 돌아보지 못하는 또 다른 외눈박이가 되지는 말아야 한다”고 밝혔다. 

이들 단체는 “법질서를 확립하려는 경찰을 폭력경찰로 몰아세우고 오히려 전경 수백 명에게 부상을 입힌 시위 주동자들을 한국 불교를 대표하는 총본산인 조계사가 보호하는 것은 부처님의 가르침에 어긋난다”며 “부처님의 가르침을 왜곡하는 행위를 즉시 중단하고 신성한 불교 성지 조계사를 떠나 달라”고 요구했다.


이들 단체는 또 “시위 진압 중에 부상을 당한 경찰과 그 가족을 위로하기 위한 모금운동을 벌이겠다”고 밝혔다.

대한민국지키기 불교도총연합은 불교계내에서 대표적인 보수 성격의 단체로 알려져 있다. 박원석 광우병대책위 공동상황실장 등 수배자 6명은 지난 5일부터, 권혜진 흥사단 교육운동본부 사무처장은 지난 10일부터 조계사에서 농성을 벌이고 있다.
