 바이든 ‘北京올림픽 외교적 보이콧’ 文도 쇼 단념해야
 

2022년 베이징(北京)동계올림픽은 한국 대선 직전인 2월 4∼20일 열린다. 문재인 대통령은 이를 계기로 
‘어게인 2018 평창’ 이벤트를 모색하고 있다. 미국 등을 상대로 한반도 종전선언을 종용하는 이유이기도 
하다. 그러나 미국은 물론 북한조차 무의미하다며 외면하고 있다. 게다가 북한은 국제올림픽위원회(IOC)
의 출전 금지 처분도 받았다. 안보 측면에서 종전선언은 북한에 한미훈련 전면 중단과 미군 철수 등을 요
구할 빌미만 키워줄 것이다.

이런 와중에 조 바이든 미국 대통령은 18일 베이징올림픽에 대한 외교적 보이콧 가능성을 묻는 질문에 “우
리가 고려하고 있는 것”이라고 직접 밝혔다. 시진핑 중국 주석과 화상 정상회담을 한 지 3일 만이고, 캐나
다 총리와의 회담 자리에서 그랬다. 그만큼 의지가 강력하다는 의미다. 이미 지난 7월 유럽연합(EU) 의회
와 영국 하원은 각각 홍콩·티베트·신장 지역의 인권 상황을 문제 삼아 정부 대표단의 올림픽 참석을 거부
하라는 결의안을 채택했다.

바이든 대통령의 언급으로 민주주의 국가 진영의 ‘외교적 보이콧’ 기류는 확산되고, 미·중 신냉전도 격화할 
가능성이 크다. 방한중인 캐서린 타이 미국무역대표부(USTR) 대표도 중국에 맞선 경제동맹을 언급했다. 
SK하이닉스 중국 공장의 장비 도입이 미국의 첨단 기술 반입 금지 조치로 인해 어려워졌다. 이런데도 문 
대통령이 베이징올림픽을 활용한 종전선언 ‘쇼’에 집착한다면 안보도 동맹도 경제도 저버리는 결과를 낳
는다. 당장 단념하기 바란다.
