 백악관 “코피전략 문구는 언론의 픽션”
 

“군사 비군사적 폭넓은 선택방안 개발하고 있어”

제한적인 대북 선제공격을 의미하는 '코피'(bloody nose) 작전‘은 언론이 만든 허구라고 백악관의 한 관리
가 주장했다.  

익명을 요구한 한 백악관 관리는 1일(현지시간) 미국의소리(VOA)와의 인터뷰에서 “코피 전략 이란 문구
는 언론의 픽션이다"며 "우리는 끊임없이 군사와 비군사적 등 폭넓은 선택방안을 개발하고 있다"고 주장했
다.  

그러면서 북한 정권의 위협으로부터 모든 대응 방안을 사용할 수 있도록 트럼프 행정부가 촘촘하게 준비
하고 있다는 일각의 지적에 대해서는 "그렇다"고 말했다.

앞서 미국 정부는 주한 미국대사로 내정됐던 빅터 차 미국 전략국제문제연구소(CSIS) 한국 석좌의 지명을 
철회했다. 이에 대해 워싱턴포스트 등 외신들은 차 석좌가 트럼프 행정부의 코피전략에 반대했기 때문에 
낙마했다는 분석을 내놨다.  

차 석좌는 지난달 31일 워싱턴포스트에 ‘북한의 코피를 터트리는 것은 미국인에게 엄청난 위험’이라는 제
목의 기고문을 통해 “대북 공격은 북한의 미사일 프로그램을 단지 지연시킬 뿐, 위협을 막지는 못한다”며 
북한에 대한 군사적 행동은 상황을 더욱 악화시키기만 할 것이라고 주장했다.[데일리안 = 이배운 기자]
