최시중 “통신 기본료 1만원 내려야 체감”
“통신사 투자여력 고려해 단계적으로 내려야”

최시중 방송통신위원장은 22일 “통신 기본료를 1만 원 정도 내려야 국민들이 체감할 것”이라면서 “하지만 통신 산업 발전을 고려해 단계적으로 내릴 수밖에 없다”고 밝혔다.
최 위원장은 이날 국회 문화체육관광방송통신위원회 국정감사에서 “통신비 인하는 꾸준히 노력하겠지만, 통신 산업 투자도 고려해야 한다”며 이같이 말했다.
그는 이어 “통신 품질을 지금보다 좋게 하려면 천문학적 돈이 들어간다”며 “국민들이 기본료 1,000원 인하가 ‘껌 값도 안 되는 금액’이라고 하지만, 통신 3사는 이로 인해 연 1조 5,000억 원 정도 수익 감소가 예상된다”고 말했다.
한나라당 진성호 의원은 “단말기 할부요금과 부가서비스 요금이 요금고지서에 들어가기 때문에 체감 통신비가 더 큰 것”이라며 통신요금을 비통신요금과 분리해 고지해야 한다고 제안했다.
진 의원은 이어 “국내 단말기 가격이 해외 수출가격에 비해 비싼 것도 국민들이 부담으로 느낀다”고 지적했다.
이에 대해 최 위원장은 “이미 공정거래위원회에서 조사하는 것으로 안다”며 “단말기 가격이 통신비 부담이 되는 측면도 있다”고 답했다.
