 “동남권 신공항 세금만 잡아먹는 망국사업”
 라이트코리아 등 시민단체, ‘사업 전면 백지화’ 촉구

동남권 신공항 문제가 정치권 최대 쟁점으로 떠오른 가운데 일부 시민단체들이 사업의 ‘전면 백지화’를 주장하고 나섰다.

 
전국환경단체협의회&#8228;라이트코리아&#8228;녹색전국연합&#8228;한국해상재난환경구조단 등은 29일 공동성명을 내고 지역이기주의에 매몰된 정치권의 이전투구 다툼을 즉각 중단할 것을 촉구하며 이같이 밝혔다.

 
이들은 “2006년 故 노무현 전 대통령의 업무 지시에 따라 본격적으로 시작된 동남권 신공항 문제가 급기야 커다란 사회적 문제로까지 악화되고 있다”며 경제성 및 환경문제를 지적했다.

 
특히 “타당성 및 입지조사 연구 용역 결과에서도 일본 간사이공항의 투자실패와 크게 벗어나지는 않을 것이라는 예상이 나오고 있다”면서 “대일, 대중 편중 가능성 등 경제적 수요만 놓고 보더라도 신공항 건설은 국민의 세금만 잡아먹는 망국사업이 될 가능성이 크다”고 우려했다. 

 
그러면서 이들 단체는 “2018년 평창동계올림픽 때 유용하게 쓰일 양양공항이나 동남권 신공항에 수요를 배분 감당할 공항들이 이미 확보됐다”면서 김해공항 확장을 대안으로 제시했다.
