 공정위 서민물가 불안 품목 전면조사

공정위는 서민생활과 직결된 품목 중 최근 가격이 인상됐거나 인상이 예상되는 품목들에 대해 지난 10일부터 담합 등 불공정행위 전면 조사에 착수했다.

 
조사품목은 음식료, 식자재, 주방용품 등 주요 생필품이다. 구체적으로 밀가루, 두유·컵커피 등 음료, 치즈, 김치, 단무지 등 반찬류 등이 포함됐다. 지난 7일 대대적인 혁신인사와 ‘가격불안품목 감시·대응 T/F 구성 등 조직정비 후 신속하게 조사반을 편성해 현장에 투입한 첫 조사이다.

 
최근 물가불안이 가장 시급한 경제현안으로 대두되고 있어 물가안정대책이 범정부적 차원에서 추진되고 있으며, 공정위는 시장기능의 개선을 통해 이바지한다는 계획이다. 

 
공정위는 시장행태(가격)감시에 주력하는 한편, 이러한 차원에서 이번 조사도 속도감 있게 실시하고 있으며, 단순한 1회성 조사가 아닌 연중 상시감시의 신호탄이다.

 
조사는 과거 70~80년대 물가단속과 같은 가격의 직접 통제나 관리가 아니라, 가격담합 등과 같은 불법인상을 방지하고 경쟁촉진을 통해 가격안정에 기여하는 방식이다.

 
공정위의 본연의 업무인 경쟁촉진업무는 가격문제와 직결된다. 경쟁촉진효과는 크게 가격하락, 품질향상, 서비스 개선 3가지로 나타나는데, 경쟁촉진의 결과가 가격하락으로 이어질 수 있는 국민생활 밀접품목의 집중 감시에 주력할 계획이다.

 
특히 최근과 같은 물가불안시기에는 가격의 동조적 인상이나 편승인상과정에서 사업자간 가격담합이 이루어지지 쉽기 때문에 이를 감시해 시정하는 것이 시급하다는 게 공정위의 판단이다.
