 한미 28일부터 美 조지워싱턴호 참가 연합훈련

북한.중국에 훈련일정 통보..연평도 도발 대응 무력시위로 한미동맹의 결의 과시

  한국과 미국은 오는 28일부터 내달 1일까지 서해상에서 미국 항공모함 조지 워싱턴호(9만7천t급)가 참가한 가운데 연합훈련을 실시한다고 주한미군사령부가 24일 밝혔다. 사전 계획된 훈련이지만 이번 훈련은 북한의 연평도 무력도발에 대한 무력시위의 성격이 강해 보인다. 

주한미군은 이날 "미국 조지 워싱턴호 항모강습단은 일련의 해상훈련 실시 일환으로 이달 28일부터 다음달 1일까지 서해상에서 한국 해군과 연합훈련을 실시한다"고 설명했다.

이번 훈련에는 순양함 카우펜스함(CG62.9천600t급), 9천750t급 구축함 샤일로함(DDG67)을 비롯한 스테담호(DDG63), 피체랄드함(DDG62) 등이 참가한다. 핵잠수함은 이번 훈련에 참가하지 않는다.

한국군은 4천500t급 한국형 구축함(KDX-Ⅱ) 2척과 초계함, 호위함, 군수지원함, 대잠항공기(P3-C) 등이 참가할 계획이다.

미군 관계자는 "이번 연습은 방어적 성격으로 지난 23일 발생한 북한의 해안포 도발 이전에 계획된 것"이라며 "이 훈련을 통해 억제력 강화와 역내 안정을 증진시키기 위해 계획했다. 양국군의 상호운용성 향상과 한미동맹의 결의를 과시하기 위해 실시된다"고 설명했다.

미국 정부는 이날 오후 훈련일정을 중국에 통보했으며, 한미연합사도 북한측에 훈련 일정을 통보할 것이라고 미군측은 설명하고 "양국군은 대공방어 및 수상전 수행능력을 중점적으로 연습하게 될 것"이라며 "조지워싱턴호는 이번에 훈련할 지역에서 그동안 수차례 작전과 연습을 실시했다"고 강조했다.(konas)
