 韓·美 천안함 덮고 6자회담 재개 올인
 美 국무부 관리 “북한과 다양한 채널로 대화”… 민간전문가 入北도 잇따라

미국이 최근 대북채널을 활발히 가동, 천안함 사태 이후 대화가 단절됐던 것과 대조적이라는 지적이 나오고 있다. 

美 국무부 고위관리가 미국과 북한 간 뉴욕채널은 열려 있으며 필요한 때에 다양한 수단을 통해 언제든 대화하고 있다고 9일 밝힌 가운데, 워싱턴의 민간단체인 한미경제연구소(KEI) 잭 프리처드 소장에 이어 스탠포드대학 국제안보협력센터의 존 루이스 교수와 시그프리드 해커 소장이 이날 북한을 방문했다. 

미국의 소리 방송(VOA)의 이날 보도에 따르면, 루이스 교수와 해커 소장은 이미 여러 차례 북한을 방문한 경험이 있으며, 지난 2007년에도 함께 영변 핵 시설을 방문, 특히 해커 소장은 올 초 영변 재처리 시설에서 북한의 플루토늄을 직접 목격했다고 밝힌 바 있다. 

또 미 국무부 북한 담당관을 지낸 조엘 위트 미 존스홉킨스대학 한미연구소 연구원도 다음주 초 북한을 방문할 예정인 것으로 전해지면서, 6자회담 재개를 놓고 밀고 당기는 물밑 접촉이 활발하게 진행되고 있다는 관측이다. 

한편, 미국의 이같은 활발한 대북접촉은 최근 한-미 양국에서 잇따라 6자회담 재개를 위한 조건을 내놓고 이산가족 상봉 등 대화를 이어가는 분위기 속에 나온 것이라서 주목을 받고 있다.
