 검찰은 정치권 압력에 굴하지 말고 公明正大하게 수사에 임하라

  ‘청목회 입법로비 사건’에 대한 검찰의 수사가 본격화하고 있는 가운데, 정치권이 이에 반발하고 부당한 압력을 행사할 조짐을 보여 국민들이 분노하고 있다.

우리는 不法 입법로비 의혹을 받고 있는 현직 국회의원 11명의 후원회 사무실에 과감한 압수수색을 단행한 북부지검의 11&#8231;5 결단에 경의(敬意)와 지지(支持)를 표하며 국민과 더불어 환영해마지 않는다.

민주당 등이 “비상계엄 상황이 아니고선 있을 수 없는 일 … 입법권에 대한 검찰권의 유린행위”라고 강변하나, 이는 설득력이 전혀 없을 뿐만 아니라 자신들의 범죄행위를 덮으려는 후안무치(厚顔無恥)한 행동임을 드러낼 뿐이다. 특히 “소액다수 정치후원금에 대한 검찰의 압수수색”이라며 “민주주의를 파괴”한다고 강변하나, 이는 억지주장에 불과하다. 서민인 청원경찰들의 각출금을 받아 국회 입법권을 ‘거래’의 대상으로 삼은 행위는 결코 용납될 수 없다. 한나라당 역시 “G20 정상회의”를 구실로 “신중한 수사”를 요구하나, 이 역시 검찰의 독립성을 침해하는 일이다.

정치권에선 또한 이번 기회에 ‘공직자비리수사처(공수처)’ 신설을 검토하겠다고 주장하나, 수사절차에 일대 변혁을 몰고 올 조치를 감정적 차원에서 논의하는 것은 천부당 만부당하다.

우리는 정치권의 부당한 압력에 굴하지 않으면서 “회기 중이라고 압수수색을 안 하면 그게 바로 정치수사”라는 입장을 천명한 검찰(북부지검)에 박수를 보낸다.

아울러 검찰은 이번 사건에서 보인 신속하고 강력한 수사 태도를 관행화(慣行化)하여 이른 바 ‘살아 있는 권력’에도 공명정대하게 수사의 칼날을 들이댐으로써, 국민으로부터 지속적이고 일관된 신뢰와 지지를 획득할 수 있도록 뼈아픈 노력을 계속해야 할 것이다.
