오바마 중국에 노벨평화상 수상자 석방 촉구
"류사오보는 신념을 지키기 위해 자신의 자유를 희생한 사람"

바락 오바마 대통령은 8일 올해 노벨평화상 수상자로 선정된 중국의 반체제 인사 류사오보의 석방을 중국 정부에 요청했습니다. 지난해 노벨 평화상 수상자이기도 한 오바마 대통령은 백악관 성명에서 류사오보는 신념을 지키기 위해 자신의 자유를 희생한 사람이라고 말했습니다.
오바마 대통령은 류샤오보의 노벨상 수상은 중국의 정치적 개혁이 경제성장 속도에 미치지 못하고 있음을 반영한다며 류샤오보의 조속한 석방을 촉구했습니다.
노벨위원회는 앞서 8일 류사오보가 중국의 기본적인 인권을 위해 길고 비폭력적인 투쟁을 벌여왔다며 올해의 노벨평화상 수상자로 선정했다고 발표했습니다. 변호사 출신인 류샤오보는 중국의 민주화 개혁을 촉구한 `08헌장(Charter 08)' 작성을 주도했으면 1989년 톄안먼 광장 민주화 운동에도 참여했었습니다.
류사오보는 지난해 12월 국가 체제전복 혐의로 체포돼 11년 형을 선고 받고 현재 복역 중입니다.
