 전여옥 PD수첩 겨냥 광우병 환자 어디있지
 "MBC 공정성?… 방송에서 데스크 휠터링 기능 상실"

MBC 노조가 지난 17일 방송 예정이던 'PD수첩'의 ‘4대강 수심 6m 비밀’ 편에 대한 경영진의 방송보류 결정을 사전검열이라며 반발하고 있다.

이런 가운데 방송기자 출신의 한나라당 전여옥 의원이 이 문제에 대해 생각을 밝혔다. 21일 자신의 홈페이지에서다.

전 의원은 이날 "언론의 자유란 중요하다. 또한 표현의 자유도 우리가 소중히 지켜야하는 자유"라고 글머리를 열었다. 하지만 곧 "자유를 지키기 위해서는 '책임'을 수반해야 하는데 그 책임은 참으로 엄중한 것"이라고 강조했다.

그는 "15여년의 방송기자 시절에 실로 무서운 방송의 영향력을 실감하며 늘 '이것은 사실인가. 이것은 공정한가'를 염두에 두고 일을 했다"며 "그럼에도 아마 턱없이 부족했을 것"이라고 말했다.

그러면서 "그 부족분을 매워준 사람들은 바로 '데스크'들 이었다"고 말한 뒤 "제가 쓴 원고를 좀 험한 말로 '걸레'로 만들며 한 방향으로 몰아간 저에 대해 끈질기게 토론을 해줬던 데스크, 만에 하나라도 사실을 왜곡하거나 혹은 잘못 전달될 수 있는 여지에 대해서도 제로의 수준까지 몰아부쳤던 '데스크'들이 있었다"고 회상했다.

전 의원은 "요즘 많은 선배들이 방송에서 데스크의 휠터링 기능이 상실됐다고 한다"면서 "가장 극명한 예가 'PD수첩의 광우병 보도'였다"고 실례를 들었다.

이어 "그 PD수첩의 광우병 보도대로라면 지금쯤 광우병 환자들이 우리 주변에서 여기저기 나타나 증언과 고통을 호소해야 마땅한데 참 조용하다"고 꼬집었다.

덧붙여 "이제 우리 한국 사회와 방송은 선동에 휘둘린 우리의 어리석음과 '이 조용함'의 현실에 대해 생각해야 한다"고 글을 맺었다.
