 밀월관계 중국대만 사실상 FTA 체결
 한국 對中수출 경쟁품목과 많이 겹쳐 타격 예상…하나의 중국으로 가는 물꼬 열려

대만과 중국의 밀월관계가 무르익고 있는 가운데 29일 중국과 대만이 사실상 FTA인 '경제협력협정'을 체결했다. 

중국 충징에서 맺은 이번 협정은 관세 인하-폐지를 골자로 하는 기본협정으로, 두 나라는 2년 안에 806개 품목의 관세를 없애기로 합의했다. 이로써 대만과 경쟁하는 한국으로서는 대중무역 관계에 출혈이 예상된다. 

지난해 한국의 중국 주요 수출품목 20개 가운데 14개는 대만과 경쟁하고 있다. 또 이 경쟁품목의 중국 수출비중이 전체의 60%에 달해 한국의 타격은 불가피할 전망이다. 

한편, 역사적인 이번 협정 체결은 지난 2년 동안 마잉주 대만 총통이 대중 경제-외교 강화 약속 노력이 결실을 맺은 것이라고 여당 지지자들은 평가하고 있다. 그러나 야당인 민진당은 대만의 경제가 약화될 수 있다고 우려한다. 

몇년 사이 중국과 대만의 접근 방식이 서로 합치, 양국간 협력이 세계의 주목받고 있는 가운데 자유민주주의 체제인 대만이 공산주의 중국에 흡수될 것인가? 하는 문제가 조심스럽게 떠오르고 있다.   
하지만 지금 당장은 그럴 가능성은 없어 보인다. 그럼에도 대만-중국이 공고한 경제협력으로 서로가 얽히고 설키다보면, 정치적인 합의 도출이 가능한 시대가 열리지 않는다는 보장도 없다.
