 美의회 ‘한국전 60주년 기념 결의안’ 채택
 "천안함 사건이 한반도의 안정을 위해 韓美간 동맹을 더 강화할 필요성을 재확인시켰다"

 MC: 미국 의회의 상하 양원은 한국전쟁 발발 60주년을 맞아 한국전쟁의 의미를 되새기고 한반도의 평화와 번영을 위한 한미 동맹의 중요성을 재확인하는 초당적 결의안을 나란히 채택했습니다. 박정우 기자가 보도합니다. 
 
 미국 하원은 17일 본회의를 열어 한국전쟁 60주년 기념 합동 결의안(H. J. RES. 86)을 통과시켰습니다. 직접 한국전쟁에 참전했던 찰스 랭글 하원의원(민주, 뉴욕)이 대표 발의하고 민주 공화 양당 의원 67명이 공동 발의자로 참여한 결의안은 한국전쟁의 역사적 의미를 되새겼습니다. 
 
 결의안은 1950년 한국전쟁이 발발한 이후 한국에서 근무한 미국과 연합국 소속 군인 모두의 고귀한 봉사와 희생을 기리고 모든 미국인이 한국전쟁 참전 용사를 기리기 위한 활동에 참여토록 권고했습니다. 결의안은 또 미국 대통령이 한국전쟁 발발 60주년을 기념하고 한국전쟁 참전 용사를 위한 기념일을 기리는 행정명령을 내릴 것을 요청했습니다. 
 
 결의안은 특히 3월26일 북한의 공격으로 한국 해군의 천안함이 침몰, 46명이 숨진 사실을 언급하고 천안함 사건이 한반도의 안정을 위해 한미 간 동맹을 더 강화할 필요성을 재확인시켰다고 밝혔습니다. 
 
 앞서 미국 상원도 16일 본회의를 열어 올해로 60주년을 맞는 한국전쟁의 역사적 중요성을 되새기고 한미 동맹의 중요성을 재확인하는 초당적 합동 결의안 (S. J. RES. 32)을 만장일치로 채택했습니다.
