 우파右派운동 경력을 지워달라는 B씨
 젓가락과 칫솔을 삼켜 실려 온 탈북자들 이야기

우파운동에 동참해 온 변호사 A씨는 최근 공직진출이 좌절됐다. 이유는 권력 안팎에 포진한 좌파의 거센 반발 때문이었다고 한다. 現정부가 右派보다 左派의 공격을 더 두려워한다는 단적인 사례이다. 한 우파단체에 소속된 B씨는 같은 무렵 이 단체를 탈퇴했다. 애국운동 경력이 공직진출에 걸림돌이 된다는 정권 내 지인의 권고 탓이었다. 
 
 노무현, 김대중 사망 이후 이명박 정부의 야릇한 기조변화가 느껴진다. 불법, 폭력, 무질서를 주도하는 깽판세력과 「본격적으로」 타협하는 스탠스가 그것이다. 좌파가 위협이 안 된다는 밑도 끝도 없는 자신감 탓인지 무언지, 알 수가 없다. 안보(安保)와 법치(法治) 대신 중도와 실용을 내걸고 경제제일주의로 치닫고 있다. 
 
 전통적 지지층을 무시하는 現정부의 기회주의 노선에선 친북좌파가 주동하는 불법, 폭력, 무질서와 북한정권의 끝없는 공갈, 협박 그리고 이들이 노리는 점진적 적화(赤化)에 대한 고민이나 문제의식을 찾을 수 없다. 
 
 기자는 지난 주 연변취재를 통해 만난 많은 선교사, 의사, 조선족들의 입을 통해 강제송환 당하기 싫어 젓가락과 칫솔을 삼켜 실려 온 탈북자들의 이야기를 들었다. 강제송환 시 철사로 코를 뚫는 것은 물론 손바닥과 정강이를 뚫어 끌고 갔다는 이야기도 들었다. 이 정부의 「우왕좌왕」 대북정책에선 자유인이 아닌 노예로 살아가는 2300만 북한 동포에 대한 연민이나 아픔이 느껴지지 않는다. 
 
 악(惡)에 대한 최소한의 분별과 절박한 인간구원을 포기한 「경제」와 「실용」의 마지막은 천박한 유물론 그 이상도 이하도 아닐 것이다.
