 포드 차관보 “북한의 완전한 비핵화 때까지 극적인 제재 완화 없어”

북한이 최종적이고 완전하게 검증된 비핵화를 할 때까지 중대한 제재 완화는 없을 것이라고 미 국무부 
고위 관리가 밝혔습니다. 미국의 목표를 달성하기 위해 안보리 대북결의 이행과 대북 압박이 중요하다
고 강조했습니다. 이연철 기자가 보도합니다.
  
  크리스토퍼 포드 국무부 국제안보·비확산 담당 차관보는 북한의 완전한 비핵화를 달성할 때까지 제재
가 지속될 것이라고 말했습니다.
  
  [녹취: 포드 차관보] “We are serious when we say, that the final and fully verified 
denuclearisation of North Korea, as promised by Trump and Kim in Singapore, is our objective”
  
  포드 차관보는 26일 제네바 유엔본부에서 열린 기자회견에서 최종적이고 완전하게 검증된 북한의 비
핵화가 미국의 목표라고 강조했습니다. 이어 북한은 그 같은 목표에 도달하기 전까지 어떤 극적인 제재 
완화도 기대해서는 안 된다고 말했습니다.
  
  포드 차관보는 북한이 반론을 제기하고 싶을 것이라며, 하지만 하노이 미-북 정상회담은 그것이 가능
한 선택지가 아니라는 점을 아주 분명히 했다고 지적했습니다. 그러면서 전면적인 대북제재 이행의 중
요성을 강조했습니다.

pressure on North Korea in order to help incentivize them making the kind of strategic choice 
they need to make…”
  
  북한이 전략적인 선택을 하도록 독려하기 위해 유엔 안보리 결의들을 이행하고 북한을 계속 압박하는 
것이 중요하다는 겁니다.
  
  포드 차관보는 북한이 전략적 선택을 하면 미국은 북한이 번영하고 성공적인 미래를 실현할 수 있도
록 도울 준비가 돼 있다고 말했습니다. 그러면서 그 같은 목적을 위해 미국 정부는 최고위급에서부터 
실무진까지 선의를 가지고 북한과 협상을 계속할 확고한 결의를 갖고 있다고 말했습니다. 포드 차관보
는 북한 문제를 다루는 것이 간단하고 순조로우며 신속하고 순차적일 것이라고 생각하는 사람은 아무
도 없을 것이라고 말했습니다.

  포드 차관보는 북한에 대한 압박을 유지하면서 동시에 추가 관여에도 열린 입장을 유지하는 것이 문
