 美정찰위성 열 탐지로 우라늄 농축시설 가동 잡아내
 핵물질 생산량 추정치-보관장소, 발뺌 못할 자료 내밀었을 가능성

북-미 베트남 핵 담판에서 도널드 트럼프 미 대통령은 김정은 북한 국무위원장에게 미 정보당국이 파악한 
북한의 비밀 핵시설 정보를 상당한 수준으로 언급한 것으로 보인다. 위치와 규모는 물론이고 가동 시기와 
운영 실태 등 북한이 부인할 수 없는 ‘스모킹건(결정적 증거)’을 제시했을 가능성이 크다는 것이다.

한 정보 당국자는 “트럼프 대통령이 강선 핵시설 등 북한이 민수용 공장으로 위장한 우라늄 농축시설의 
핵물질 생산 증거와 생산량 추정치, 핵물질의 이동 경로, 보관 장소까지 거론했을 개연성이 있다”고 말했
다.  

대규모 부지에 원자로와 재처리시설 등을 갖춘 영변 핵시설과 달리 우라늄 농축시설은 소규모 건물에도 
설치할 수 있다. 은폐가 용이해 발견하기가 쉽지 않다는 얘기다. 하지만 땅속 깊이 숨기지 않는 한 미 정찰
위성의 감시망을 피하기 힘들다. 위성의 고성능 적외선(IR) 카메라는 수백 km 상공에서 농축시설 가동 시 
발생하는 발전설비의 열기를 탐지할 수 있다. 강선 핵시설도 외양은 일반 공장처럼 보이지만 농축시설로 
추정되는 건물 지붕에서 연중 발생하는 열기를 미 정찰위성이 포착해 실체가 드러난 것으로 알려졌다.

또 위성의 초고해상도 광학카메라는 비밀 핵시설을 드나드는 차량과 화물 종류, 인력 동향을 주야 관계없
이 파악할 수 있다. 우라늄 농축원료의 반입과 농축 후 폐기물의 반출 현장도 얼마든지 추적이 가능하다.
