국방부 “군복무단축 세부계획 발표 3월말 목표”
“지연 가능성 배제 못해…여러가지 우려 보완책 마련중”

국방부가 군복무단축 방안 세부계획 발표 시기를 이달 말을 목표로 하고 있다고 강조했다.
최현수 국방부 대변인은 15일 정례브리핑에서 관련 질문을 받자 “시간을 저희가 3월말을 목표로 하고는
있다”면서도 “다소 시간이 걸릴 가능성에 대해서는 배제를 못하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
최현수 대변인은 “복무기간 단축에 대한 여러 가지 우려사항들이 있다”며 “그 부분을 가장 잘 효과적으로
보완할 수 있는 방안을 충분히 마련한 다음에 결정을 내릴 예정”이라고 강조했다.
아울러 군복무 단축 추진은 안보 포퓰리즘이 아니냐는 일각의 지적에 대해서는 “미래전장 양상이 변화되
고 있고 예전처럼 병력에만 의존하는 형태가 아니다”며 “현대화에 맞는 전력투자를 계속하고 우리 젊은이
들의 병역부담을 완화하는 방안도 함께 고려하면서 가고 있다”고 답했다.[데일리안 = 이배운 기자]
