건국대 서울캠퍼스 동물생명과학대에서 발생한 원인을 알 수 없는 폐렴 동반 호흡기질환 환자 수가 계속 늘어나고 있다. 보건 당국과 건대 측은 호흡기 질환을 유발하는 곰팡이 발병 가능성에 대해서도 조사하고 있다. 

31일 보건복지부 질병관리본부에 따르면 호흡기질환 관련 증세를 보이는 사람이 전날보다 14명 추가 확인돼 총 45명으로 늘었다. 이 중 34명은 폐렴 증세를 보이고 있는 것으로 전해졌다. 또 11명은 발열 등의 증세가 확인됐고, 흉부 방사선 검사를 통해 폐렴이 있는지를 파악중이다. 

보건당국은 바이러스와 세균 등 총 15개 종류의 병원체에 대해 검사를 실시했지만 원인을 찾지 못했다. 

이에 보건당국과 건대 측은 곰팡이에도 무게를 두고 조사중이다. 일부 환자의 폐 CT에서 곰팡이 덩어리 소견이 나왔기 때문이다. 실험실이 밀폐된 공간인 만큼, 곰팡이 실험을 했다면 폐렴을 일으킬 만큼 고농도로 노출됐을 가능성도 제기되고 있다. 

다만, 곰팡이는 건강한 사람에게는 폐렴을 잘 일으키지 않고 집단 감염되는 경우도 거의 없어 당국은 환경과 화학물질 등의 가능성도 염두에 두고 역학 조사를 진행하고 있다.[데일리안 = 스팟뉴스팀]
