年 예산 30억원 넘는 사찰… 조계종 7월부터 재정 공개

조계사, 봉은사 등 조계종 산하 연간 예산 규모 30억원 이상인 사찰은 올 7월부터 매년 신도들에게 재정 상황을 공개한다. 사보(寺報), 홈페이지, 법회 등을 통해서다. 조계종 총무원장 자승 스님은 27일 기자회견을 열고 이 같은 방침을 발표했다. 올 7월 재정 공개 대상은 조계사, 봉은사, 강화도 보문사, 갓바위 선본사 등 직영 사찰 4곳과 도선사, 연주암, 낙산사, 봉정암 등 특별 분담금 사찰 7곳 그리고 연간 예산 30억원 이상인 사찰들이다. 전체 43개로 추산되는 이 사찰들은 종단 전체 사찰 예산의 약 60%를 차지한다.
조계종은 지난 1월부터 매달 종단 개혁을 위한 사부대중 100인 대중공사를 열고 있다. 이날 발표된 계획은 지난 3월 대중공사 합의에 따른 것. 자승 총무원장은 "사찰 재정 공개는 종교단체의 도덕성과 신뢰성에 대한 사회적 기대와 요구가 높아지면서 중요한 덕목으로 자리 잡았다"고 밝혔다. 조계종은 오는 6월 재정 공개 대상 사찰 회의를 열어 재정 공개의 형식과 범위, 절차를 논의할 예정이다.
