 美 소방당국한식당 불판 단속에 코리안 바비큐 된서리…왜

글로벌 한식 열풍 속에 가장 인기가 높은 갈비구이, 이른바 ‘코리안 바비큐’가 미국 시장에서 안전 인증이라는 뜻밖의 복병을 만났다고 SBS가 18일 보도했다.

SBS에 따르면, 최근 미국 워싱턴 현지 소방당국은 워싱턴 근교 한인 식당들을 대상으로 ‘갈비 불판이 화재와 폭발 위험이 크다’는 이유로 기습 단속을 벌였다.

이 단속으로 휴대용 부탄가스 버너는 화재 진압용 후드를 갖춘 소규모 식당에서만 쓸 수 있다며 창고에 처박혔고, 한 식당은 수천만 원을 들여 불판 식탁을 교체했다.

또 20년 전통의 유명 식당 한성옥은 아예 문을 닫았다. 미국에서 안전 인증을 받지 않은 고정식 불판 식탁엔 사용을 금지하는 빨간 딱지가 붙었다고 한다.

민원이 빗발치자 결국 소방 당국은 잠시 단속를 유예하고 설명회까지 열었다.

홀링스워스 페어팩스 카운티 소방안전 담당관은 SBS와의 인터뷰에서 “문화가 달라 일어나는 일도 다르다. 그에 대응하는 게 우리 임무이고, 우리 목표는 모든 이들의 안전을 보장하는 것”이라고 밝혔다.
