 캠벨 차관보 버마 북한과 관계 단절해야

버마는 북한과의 협력을 중단하고 다른 나라들과 새로운 관계를 맺어야 한다고 미 고위 당국자가 밝혔다. 친구를 보면 그 사람의 됨됨이를 알 수 있다고도 했다.

[미국소리방송]커트 캠벨 미국 국무부 동아시아태평양 차관보가 버마에 북한과의 관계 단절을 촉구했다.

 
캠벨 차관보는 지난 25일 워싱턴 전략국제문제연구소 (CSIS)가 주최한 버마 관련 회의에서 버마가 북한과의 관계를 청산하기 위해 긍정적인 초기 조치들을 취해 왔다면서, 앞으로도 그런 단계를 밟아 주길 바란다고 밝혔다.

 
캠벨 차관보는 또 다른 국가들이 버마와 더욱 개선되고 다른 종류의 관계를 발전시켜 달라고 당부했다.

 
한국이 미국과의 공조하에 북한이 도저히 할 수 없는 방식으로 버마를 지원하고 있다고 소개했다.

 
특히 버마 당국이 북한과의 밀착 관계를 지난 정권의 일로 선을 긋고 있는 걸로 알고 있다며 실제로 그렇기를 바란다고 밝혔다.

 
캠벨 차관보는 이어 리처드 루가, 짐 웹 미 상원 의원이 북한과 버마간 협력에 강한 의구심을 제기해 왔음을 상기시키면서, 이 같은 의혹을 해소시키기 위해 앞으로도 추가 조치가 이행돼야 한다고 강조했다.
