 태풍 인명피해 2002년 루사와 비교해 볼때 생각보다 적어

제15호 태풍 ’볼라벤(BOLAVEN)’은 역대 우리나라를 찾아온 태풍 가운데 다섯 번째로 강한 바람세기를 기록했지만 우려했던 최악의 피해는 발생하지 않았다.

[푸른한국닷컴 박종안 기자]‘볼라벤(BOLAVEN)’이 제주도와 서해안 지방에 기록적인 강풍을 몰아치고 29일 새벽 북한의 강계지역를 지나 중국 쪽으로 빠져나갔다. 

볼라벤은 제주와 지리산 산간에 폭우를 쏟은 반면 서울을 비롯한 중부지방에는 비를 거의 뿌리지 않았다.

2002년 태풍 ’루사(RUSA)’는 볼라벤과 비슷한 초속 56.7ｍ의 순간 최대풍속을 기록하고 246명의 사망ㆍ실종자와 8만8천여명의 이재민을 냈다.

중앙재난안전대책본부는 이날 밤 11시 현재 태풍 볼라벤의 영향으로 4명이 사망하고 2명이 다쳤다고 밝혔다.

또 안전사고 등으로 6명이 사망했다. 제주 해상에서 중국어선 2척이 좌초해 선원 15명이 숨지거나 실종됐다. 이재민은 75가구 180명으로 늘었다.

당초 수도권 지역은 처음 겪어보는 큰 태풍으로 상당한 타격을 입을 것으로 우려됐지만 부상과 정전을 제외하면 큰 피해는 없었다.

전국적으로 정전된 곳은 176만7000여가구로 이 가운데 89%는 복구됐다. 전국 곳곳의 해안 양식장과 과수원, 농장 등은 강풍으로 심각한 타격을 입었다.

이렇게 피해가 크지 않은 이유는 우선 볼라벤이 루사처럼 우리나라에 상륙해 육지를 관통하지 않고 서해안 바다 인근을 중심으로 이동했기 때문으로 분석된다.

제주와 지리산 산간, 서ㆍ남해안 일부 지역을 제외하고는 비가 거의 내리지 않은 ’마른 태풍’이었던 점도 태풍 피해의 상당 부분을 차지하는 침수 피해를 막았다.

중부지방에는 비도 거의 내리지 않아 피해를 크게 줄였다.
