조현오 “경찰 검찰과 상호협력8729견제해야”
“학교 폭력 너무 안일하게 접근해 왔다”
“경찰, 기존 형사법적 사고 벗어나 적극적으로 대응해야”

조현오 경찰청장은 13일 "경찰은 검찰과 상호 협력하고 때로는 견제하면서 국민의 인권을 보장하는 선진화된 형사사법체계를 구축해야 한다"고 강조했다.
조 청장은 이날 경기도 용인에 있는 경찰대학에서 전국 지방경찰청장과 부속기관장, 경찰서장 등 333명이 참석한 자리에서 '전국 경찰지휘부 워크숍'을 열고 수사구조 개혁과 관련해 이같이 밝혔다.
조 청장은 "우리 사회가 학교 폭력을 그냥 일부 학생들의 문제로만 치부하고 안일하게 접근해 온 것은 아닌지 반성해야 한다"며 "경찰은 기존의 형사법적 사고에서 벗어나 좀 더 적극적으로 대응하는 자세를 갖춰야 한다"고 지적했다.
이와 더불어 조 청장은 "올해는 핵 안보정상회의와 총선, 대선 등 사회적 갈등이 크겠지만, 이는 경찰의 우수성을 대내외에 알릴 기회가 되기도 할 것이다"라고 덧붙였다.
한편, 이날 워크숍에서는 경찰 정체성 및 주체성 확립 방안, 국민만족도 제고 방안 등이 중점적으로 논의됐다.
